Speaking of Gems. . .
Home > Gems & Jewels > Speaking of Gems. . .May I introduce you to my youngest grandson, Noah Fredrick? He is four years old and it pleased the LORD to save his soul before he was three, just before his third birthday in the month of June, 2008. My husband and I took care of Noah when he was born so his mother could work as a health care professional. We were, of course, very attached to the little fellow. I found it was pure joy to have this child in my home and in my arms in his early days and months of growing. He ate and slept and we rocked and rocked in the rocking chair placed by his crib in the room where he slept.
During his waking hours, I prayed for him without ceasing and took him outside at every opportunity to see God’s creation. I was teaching him about birds, trees, clouds, and sunshine before he was one year old. Before the age of two, I had already introduced him to nursery rhymes and Bible School songs. I took every opportunity to sow the seed of God’s truths into this precious little being. I spent many hours nurturing him and spoke the things of God into his ears before he could talk. He was always happy and had an infectious smile and so we developed a strong bond. He was also learning about the LORD Jesus Christ!
When he was not yet three, he could talk and reason. He would ask me questions about everything and by now we were walking outdoors daily discovering all the wonderful things God has given us richly to enjoy. The rabbits make their homes under the fir trees at the end of the driveway. There were hummingbirds flitting about here and there all Spring and Summer in our yard. The squirrels played all year round and beautiful birds would flock to the large feeder on our deck. This darling little boy would find pine cones, pretty rocks, flowers and everything was a treasure to him. Noah learned that God created everything and God was in charge of everything. I practiced what I preached and modelled Christ before him in all things. Patience, patience, patience. God-given patience in all things in dealing with him. God was doing a work, in the child and in me.
Finally, the day came when Noah Fredrick asked me where Jesue lived. . .”In my heart, Noah. Does He live in yours?” “No,” he answered. Then ensued a conversation about Easter and when Jesus died on the cross. I explained the whole thing to him as I’d done many times. When we are naughty, that is called sin. Jesus died to take away our sins. He shed His blood for you and for me. Later that day, Noah asked me again where Jesus lived. “In my heart, Noah. Does He live in yours?” “Not yet, Nan,” he answered. “That’s okay, Noah. He will when it is time. When it is time, you will know.” I was sitting on the sofa and he was sitting on a little rocking horse rocking back and forth, back and forth. Suddenly he stopped and said, “Nan, I want, I want, I want Jesus to live in my heart. . .” The Spirit of Christ spoke to my heart so plainly that day: “Do NOT lead him in a prayer. . .I am drawing his heart unto Me–he must ask Me for himself.” I continued praying for Noah. “Well, then Noah, if that is what you want, you have to talk to God about that.” I waited for a response. “You mean. . .pray. . .Nan?” “Yes, Noah. Prayer is talking to God. Tell Him what you want.” He had a puzzled look on his little face, then he folded his little hands and bowed his head low. “Jesus, Jesus, help! Help me.” I was praying for him. Then he just looked up to the ceiling and cried out loud, “Jesus, it’s alright, You can come in right now. Just come in!” In a couple of minutes, he had the most beautiful smile on his face and he just lit up! “Well, Nan, He’s in my heart now! Nan! God has just filled me up with His love!”
I had a strong witness of the Holy Spirit in my spirit and I just slipped down to my knees off the sofa and I raised my right hand up to the LORD and prayed softly. ”LORD Jesus, make it so. Seal him with your Holy Spirit and make him Your very own.” Noah Fredrick was not quite three years old when this happened and the joy of the LORD was evident in him. As soon as his mother came in from work, he told her right away that Jesus lived in his heart! How very glad his mother was to hear that news! She received Christ when she was just seven years old and followed shortly thereafter in believer’s baptism at her own request.
My daughter is a single parent and she and Noah attend a Bible-teaching Church regularly. Last week, during the announcements, a young man asked for prayer for a young missionary girl in Pakistan named Sanduhl who has been arrested for sharing her faith in Jesus Christ with the people there. He said he needed someone who would pray for Sanduhl, that God would help her in this difficult trial. Noah Fredrick was the first to raise his hand and he said out loud, “I will pray for this girl.” My daughter raised her hand, too and the man gave Noah the flyer telling about her and also a bracelet to wear to remind him to pray for her daily. Now a mother and her son are praying together for someone else’s child, someone else’s daughter for her very life to be spared. This four-year-old loves to go to Church and talks about God all the time. He breaks out in prayer spontaneously when he wants to pray, espescially at the dinner table or if someone is sick or needs help. He knows how to talk to God led by the Holy Spirit. He told me the other day Jesus has a big sword and He can fight any battle and win. I tell him, “Jesus is with you, Noah.” And I know He is. . .
I am a grandmother most blessed. God is good and God answers the prayers of His people, doesn’t He?
