The words to a famous hymn written by Cecil Alexander came to mind recently:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colours,
He made their tiny wings.

God gave me a special blessing last month when my son, Rob gave me a beautiful green plant for my birthday which was not blooming.  You can read all about it here.  We were so excited to see two lovely little birds, male and female choose my hanging basket for their Spring home and the female laid three eggs.   I had never seen a cardinal nest so close to the house before this happened.  I prayed much about this little family and especially that Noah, my youngest grandson, would see the baby birds when they were born.

God answered my prayers and two of  the little birds hatched and were coaxed safely out of the nest.  One egg, however, did not hatch and was left whole when the birds abandoned the nest.  I took a picture of the nest with the beautiful little egg in it when I removed it from the basket yesterday.  The plant is now covered with fushia blooms for the hummingbirds and I preserved the nest with egg in tact in a tightly taped clear freezer bag for Noah to take to school for show-and-tell next Friday.  When I gave it to him this evening after dinner, I asked him who made the nest.  He said, “The red and yellow birds, Nan!”  “And Who  taught the birds to MAKE the nest, Noah?”  “God. . .” he answered quickly.  Then he flashed me a great big smile!  Thank You, LORD, for this surprise and blessing just a few feet from our front door.
