The Life of Susannah Spurgeon

MORNING DEVOTIONS BY SUSANNAH SPURGEON, along with THE LIFE OF SUSANNAH SPURGEON by Charles Ray in one volume is the material from which we have drawn these postings.  It was originally published as A CARILLON OF BELLS and is currently republished by the Banner of Truth Trust in this format.  Full of spiritual devotion to Christ, her words ring out ‘the old truths of free grace and dying love’ on every page.

This affectionate love story suppplies a fascinating record of the work of Mrs. Spurgeon’s Book Fund.  Many thousands of pastors, missionaries and students were generously helped through her faithful work.  Susannah Spurgeon lived on 12 years after her husband’s death.  She also used this time to compile her husband’s papers, which included parts of his autobiography written by himself; and with the help of Mr. Harrold, Spurgeon’s faithful secretary, Susannah completed a four volume set of The Autobiography of C.H. Spurgeon, which was published by Passmore and Alabaster in England and later by the American Baptist Publications Society in America.  The same work is available today in an abridged edition in two volumes by Banner of Truth Trust.

In the midst of a debilitating chronic illness which she endured, she was enabled to do a great work for God.  Her inspiring example continues to bear fruit to this day in our present generation.  Thank You, LORD, for the life and testimony of Susannah Spurgeon!
